Meet The Team

Co-Project Manager // 4th Year // SE Major

After trying out different clubs and teams, I found my home in Concrete Canoe because it felt like I belonged. At my first meeting, I got to make a fresh batch of concrete, along with some new friends. I later applied to be a junior construction lead to practice handling power tools, and look at me now!

I was initially drawn in by the contradictory nature of making a canoe out of concrete, and I viewed it as a fun challenge. After attending a few meetings it became clear that beyond providing learning and growth opportunities, it was a place to find community.

The current board at Concrete Canoe encouraged me to contribute and be a part of the team my second and third year. By the end of my third year I fell in love with the commitment and how the team’s efforts all came together for the final product, even when each member has different specialties.

During my freshman year, I was interested in joining a project team related to my major and was most interested in Concrete Canoe because it seemed the most fun. However, it took until my second year at UCSD to join and I immediately wondered why I didn’t join sooner. I was welcomed immediately and was able to help, learn, and make friends as the year progressed.

I joined Concrete Canoe because I was seeking a club that provides hands-on experience with engineering materials, and Concrete Canoe stood out to me. Despite having no prior experience, I've learned the process of building the canoe and have remained actively involved in both the Mix and Construction teams.

I joined Concrete Canoe in my second year because I thought it was the most fun vibe of all the project teams. I also wanted a more hands-on experience of engineering and concrete canoe was my answer for that.

I joined the UCSD Concrete Canoe Team to gain hands-on engineering experience, work on innovative designs, and collaborate with a team to solve real-world challenges. It's a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to a creative and competitive project.

I was initially encouraged to join by a friend who was already part of Concrete Canoe. I decided to give it a try and was drawn in by both the people and the hands-on experience.

The summer before college I got obsessed with concrete so an entire club that endeavors to make a canoe out of the material sounded impossible and intriguing. Through this, I grew my appreciation for the versatility of the material that produces about half of the man-made world.
